2017 Beyond our Boundaries Youth Leadership Summit
APAPA Ohio, OCAA, WCCA and NAKASEC are partnering together to promote this event in Ohio. We are looking for youth from 14 to 18 years old who are passionate about community leadership and civic engagement. A majority of the expenses (lodging, meals and transportation) will be covered for a limited number of youths selected.
What: The Beyond our Boundaries Summit is a three-day convening to be held in Chicago, IL from August 10-12, 2017 that is being planned for and by Asian American youth organizers from different parts of the country. The Summit is for high school-aged youth who identify as Asian American, and is being led and organized by youth. The planning committee consists of AAU (Asian Americans United in Philadelphia), APANO (Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon), Hana Center (Chicago), KRC (Korean Resource Center in LA), and NAKASEC. The goal of the summit is to bring together Asian American youth organizing groups to create a space where young people can learn, build, share and develop an Asian American Youth Organizing Platform with each other. When: August 10 – 12th, 2017.
Where: Lodging expenses are covered for participants for the night of August 9th, 10th, and 11th (check-out on the 12th). Participants will be staying at Hostelling International in downtown Chicago 24 E Congress Pkwy, the summit will be held at Columbia College (a couple of blocks down the street from the hostel).
Expenses: Lodging for the night of August 9th-11th (check-out the 12th) will be covered by summit conveners. Breakfast and lunch for the days of the summit (10-12th) will also be covered. Lodging spaces are limited!
How to Apply: Interested youths from age 14 – 18, please submit the following information to our email address ohiocaa.org@gmail.com by July 12, 2017:
- Student name, age, school and grade in fall 2017.
- Parent contact information (name, address, phone number and email address).
- Resume.
- Optional: an essay of 100 – 500 words about your passion, experience and/or ideas about community service and civic engagement.
